RecallPlus Testing Mode

You are currently in testing mode.

This is the mode you can use to test yourself on the material you have entered into cards, or cards you have downloaded.

RecallPlus will test you on all cards you have seen, in an order determined by:
How well you have recalled the cards in the past
How significantly you have weighted the individual cards

Starting Test Mode

Enter test mode from the learning mode. There are two ways to so this
1) Click the "Force Test Mode" button in the toolbar. This will test you on the card you are viewing at the time.
2) Click the "Next Test" button in the toolbar. The program will determine which card to test you on and jump to the card most "due for testing".
You can tell you are in test mode as the background to the toolbar will appear GREEN.

When Should You Enter Test Mode?

You will know when a card is due for testing as the "Next Test" button in the toolbar will turn red
If you test yourself whenever this button turns red, you will learn as efficiently as possible.

Working in Test Mode

Revealing the card
Once you have started test mode, the first textbox of the first card you are to be tested on will appear on your screen.
This will usually be a prompt or a question. The rest of the card is purposely hidden from sight.
At this stage you should try and recall the answer to the question, or the information the prompt is designed to help you recall.
Once you have done this, click once to reveal the links (connects) to the next textboxes.
If you click again on this first textbox, all the linked boxes will appear. Alternatively you can click on the individual connects themselves to reveal the links one at a time.
Repeat this until the entire card has been revealed.
Once you have finished, a message will scroll across the top of your screen.
Indicating your level of recall
Once the card is fully revealed you can let RecallPlus know how well you recalled each link.
If you recalled a link, just leave it. RecallPlus will store this link as fully recalled and increase the time before it tests you on it again.
If you almost remembered a link, rightclick on the textbox once. The textbox will be surrounded with an ORANGE box and the link stored as "almost recalled". You will be tested on it with the same time spacing as it before you were tested.
If you didn't remember a link at all, righclick on the textbox twice. The box will be surrounded with RED, and the link stored as "not recalled". RecallPlus will reduce the time to the next testing on these links.
If you rightclick on a textbox a third time, the surrounding box will turn GREEN. This is the same as not clicking at all, and the link will be stored as "fully recalled"
Moving on to the next card
To move to the next card RecallPlus has determined you are to be tested on, click "Next Test"
Or to move to the next card in the chapter or to a specific card, use the navigation tools in the toolbar.

Exiting Test Mode

You can exit at any time by clicking on the "Force Test Mode / Click End Test" button in the toolbar

How does RecallPlus decide what to test me on?

The pool of cards RecallPlus tests you from includes all those you have seen before. If you download a chapter and don't look at the cards, you will not be tested on them.
This pool of cards is sorted into a "testing order" by taking two factors into account:
1) Time cards are due for testing. You are initially tested on each card at 10 minute intervals. This time changes with each testing, depending on which level of recall you indicated.
2) Weighting. All cards are set with a default weighting of "40". If a card contains information that is particularly important you can set the weighting higher and you will be tested on these "more important" cards before other cards with the same "time to test".

Monitoring the Testing Status of a Chapter

When you open a chapter, you will see a graph indicating the testing status of the cards in the opened chapters.
From this graph, you can see:

Test Mode Related Functions and Options

Connects

Connects contain the information on when to test the associated link (textbox)
Rightclicking on a connect will offer you a list of options. Of that list, the useful functions are:
Move which enables you to reposition the connect. You can reposition it from either end or the middle.
EDIT which takes you to a screen showing the properties of the connect
!DELETE! will delete the connect. All textboxes (except the first) must have a link going into them to save the card. This makes sense, as RecallPlus would have no way of testing you on a card without the connects.

Chapter Related Options

You can reset the memory of RecallPlus for a chapter. All time intervals will revert to the default (10 minutes).
Do this from the top function bar in Learning Mode. Select EDIT/CHAPTER/Delete all progress learning this chapter.

Card Related Options

To change the weight of a card select EDIT/CARD/Modify card's weight.

To reset the memory of RecallPlus for a card, and revert time intervals to default, select EDIT/CARD/Set as if NEVER SEEN BEFORE

To Change the Test Interval Multiplier and Divider

By default, if you indicate a card is completely recalled the time interval before the card is tested again is multiplied by 8. So if the time interval WAS 10 minutes it will become 80 minutes.
Similarly if you indicate a card NOT recalled (red) the time interval will be divided by 8, so an 80 minute testing interval will change to 10 minutes.

You can alter this multiplier/divider number.

To do this, select Options / Preferences / Timing and type in the new multiplier number. Then click "Apply" and "OK".

To Change the Minimum Interval to Test

By default this is set as 10 minutes. You will not be tested more frequenlty on any given card than every 10 minutes.
To change this, select Options / Preferences / Timing and type in the new minimal interval to test. Then click "Apply" and "OK".

Note that the default multiplier and timing are set in response to research on effective learning techniques.
It would be beneficial to your learning to leave these defaults in place!
